Now this place is no secret, I showed up around 8pm on a Saturday night and there was a 2 hour wait for a party of four, but it was well worth the wait. They allow you to order from the bar while you wait - I had an old fashioned, which was excellent. The best way I could explain the atmosphere is if you mixed upscale dining with a nightclub. There was loud music and everyone around was having a great time singing and dancing. At the same time, the service was excellent and I felt very comfortable the entire time.
Switching to the menu, they have a great selection of both signature and classic cocktails, and their prices on food and beverages are very reasonable for the New Orleans area. I got the oyster morrow to start and it was the best cooked oyster I have ever put in my mouth. The oyster morrow is charbroiled oyster covered in a house sauce and fresh lump crabmeat. Get a dozen of these every time and don't think twice about it. For the main course I opted for the dark meat fried chicken with mac and cheese, braised cabbage, and yams. When I say this was the best classic southern meal I've ever had, I'm not lying. The chicken was perfectly crisp, extremely juicy, and packed with flavor without being too spicy. The baked mac and cheese was creamy and crispy at the same time. I love the jumbo macaroni noodles they used because they hold more sauce and create the perfect texture. The yams were cooked perfectly and had a great sweet taste. The cabbage was tender and delicious, but more on the spicy side, great for me but would not order if you have a low spice tolerance. I was too full to get dessert but will definitely be diving into one next time.
Overall, Morrow’s was a great experience and needs to be on your list of must tries while visiting New Orleans.
